We’re a fast-growing company operating at the intersection of energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure. We’re looking for a Director of Engineering to serve as a strategic support arm for our customers.
This fully remote role is perfect for someone who thrives in a dynamic, digital-first environment and loves keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes. You’ll be a part of the exec team helping to support and solve customer issues that may arise, all while keeping the executive team informed with clear, actionable insights.

ROLE SUMMARY
PDM is seeking an experienced, hands-on engineering leader to join as Director of Engineering – Customer Solutions. This individual will bridge the gap between engineering, sales, and project development, bringing transformer and power system expertise to our customers’ project needs. You will be instrumental in supporting solution development, optimizing transformer applications for power generation projects, and driving adoption of PDM products by working directly with client engineers and internal stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
⚙️ Customer Engineering & Solution Design
- Lead technical scoping and solution development with customers (engineers, developers, EPCs) across power generation and distribution sectors.
- Participate in customer meetings to review project layouts, electrical one-lines, and site-specific integration of PDM transformer solutions.
- Identify opportunities to optimize and differentiate PDM product offerings during the design process.
🚀 Project & Sales Enablement
- Collaborate with Sales and Business Development teams to provide pre-sales technical guidance and develop BOMs, specs, and project-specific solutions.
- Develop standard layout templates and documentation that accelerate the project quoting and bid process.
- Ensure all proposed solutions align with PDM manufacturing capabilities and delivery timelines.
🧩 Cross-functional Engineering Leadership
- Coordinate with PDM’s manufacturing, procurement, and engineering teams to ensure custom solution deliverability.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for field engineers and sales teams across different verticals (Data Center, Industrial, Utility).
- Refine PDM’s engineering support model to scale across growth markets.
📈 Team Development & Vertical Support
- Develop and mentor internal engineering staff to become technical leads supporting each sales vertical.
- Create playbooks and training programs for internal sales engineers and channel partners.
- Maintain a talent pipeline by working with HR to grow the next generation of PDM engineering talent.
IDEAL BACKGROUND & SKILLS
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required (multi-state preferred)
- 10+ years of experience in utility-scale engineering, power generation, or transformer design/application
- Experience managing multi-stakeholder technical negotiations (utilities, regulators, developers)
- Deep understanding of grid interconnection, load profiles, cogeneration plants, and transformer lifecycle
- Strong project management skills—can lead multimillion-dollar engineering projects from concept through commissioning
- Experience leading cross-functional teams in engineering, operations, and customer success
- Strong communicator with ability to translate technical concepts to business audiences
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with EPCs, RFPs, and proposal development for power infrastructure projects
- Familiarity with NERC/FERC regulations, interconnection standards, and clean energy policy
- Familiarity with transformer factory operations and logistics
